Hibiscus Spiced Drink (Bissap / Karkadé)
Introduction
This hibiscus spiced drink is a refreshing, deeply flavored beverage made from dried hibiscus flowers infused with cloves, cinnamon, and citrus. Naturally vibrant and rich in antioxidants, it can be enjoyed hot or cold, perfect for hydration and relaxation.
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried hibiscus flowers
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4–6 whole cloves
- 1 liter water
- Juice of ½ lime or lemon
- Honey or sugar (to taste)
- Ice cubes (optional, for serving cold)
Instructions
- Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers thoroughly under cold water.
- Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan.
- Add the hibiscus flowers, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
- Reduce heat and let simmer for 10–15 minutes until the liquid turns deep red.
- Remove from heat and strain the liquid into a jug.
- Add lime or lemon juice and sweeten to taste.
- Serve hot, or let cool and serve chilled with ice
